Halloween Edition Profiles POWI's Energy Vampire-Slaying Technology

SAN JOSE, Calif. - October 23, 2002 - Power Integrations, Inc. (Nasdaq: POWI), will be featured on the October 27, 2002, edition of ABC Network's BusinessNow broadcast in the San Francisco, New York City and Washington, DC metropolitan areas. The segment will be broadcast in the Bay Area at 11:30 am on Channel 7 KGO-TV, in New York City at 10:30 a.m. on WABC-TV, and in Washington, DC at 10:30 am on WJLA/ABC7. The segment will also be featured on ABCNewsOne on Thursday, October 31 at 1:30 pm. In addition, the segment will be available on the Internet at BusinessNow.com for three weeks starting Friday, October 25th.

The BusinessNow profile discusses Power Integrations' new LinkSwitch(TM), the company's latest integrated circuit enabling a new class of lightweight, compact, energy-efficient power supplies for a wide range of popular electronics.

The profile looks at how the company's EcoSmart(TM) technology is ending the reign of 'Energy Vampires,' those linear transformer bricks that suck energy dollars 24 hours a day. A vast amount of energy - more than $4 billion a year in the U.S. alone - is wasted by electronic products that are plugged in, yet not performing any useful function. The adapters or chargers for devices, such as cell phones, cordless phones, PDAs, electric toys, power tools, garage door openers and handheld vacuums, have been called 'Energy Vampires' by President Bush because they waste energy even when consumers think they are turned off. 'LinkSwitch,' Power Integrations' newest chip, is on a quest to slay the more than one billion vampires produced every year.

"With the introduction of LinkSwitch,, manufacturers can meet all of the world's current and proposed energy efficiency regulations for standby and no-load power for power supplies at 3 watts and below," said Balu Balakrishnan, president and CEO, Power Integrations. "Governments are introducing more stringent regulations and our underlying EcoSmart technology allows manufacturers to cost effectively meet all proposed regulations. BusinessNow provides an excellent forum to inform consumers and regulators that the technology to save energy is here now."

"We seek out companies whose technology benefits all of us, so Power Integrations was a perfect choice," said Mike Sanford, BusinessNow's Bay Area director of programming and the producer of the segment. "Not only because Power Integrations is a leader in its field, but because its story remains front and center with California's ongoing energy challenges."
