Power Integrations, Inc. To Present at BancBoston Robertson Stephens 16th Annual Technology Conference

February 24, 1999

SUNNYVALE, CALIF. - Feb. 24, 1999 -- Power Integrations, Inc. (Nasdaq:POWI) is the leading provider of integrated circuits (ICs) used in converting the raw AC power delivered to homes and offices to the DC power required by consumer and office electronics. The company's ICs are found in power supplies and battery chargers for a number of products, including cell phones, desktop PCs, TVs, VCRs, cordless rechargeable appliances and cable set-top boxes.

Until the 1970's, power supplies for electronics were clumsy, inefficient "bricks" with many internal components. In the 1970's, some improvements were made, but in general, power supplies have simply not kept pace with the rapid technological advances of the products they power.

In 1994, Power Integrations introduced its TOPSwitch family of ICs and became a leader in the market for power conversion ICs. In 1997, the company introduced its enhanced TOPSwitch-II ICs. Both TOPSwitch and TOPSwitch-II integrate power supply functions, greatly reducing the number of internal components and enabling much smaller, lighter products.

In 1998, the company introduced its TinySwitch ICs, designed specifically for the energy efficiency market. Not only does TinySwitch enable power supplies that are dramatically reduced in size, it also enables dramatic reductions in the amount of power consumed by electronics in "stand-by" mode - a TV waiting to be turned on by a remote control, for example. TinySwitch also cuts power consumption in "no load" mode - a cell phone charger plugged in with no phone attached, for example. Initially targeted at the under-5-watt market, TinySwitch ICs are cost effective at a number of power ranges. Encouraged by government energy efficiency programs like the EPA's Energy Star and Germany's Blue Angel, Power Integrations sees a world market for its products that will grow for the foreseeable future.

Power Integrations' ICs are used in products from some of the best-known companies around the world, including Alcatel, Apple Computer, AT&T, Compaq, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel, Motorola, Siemens and Sony.
